そもそもズーミングに際して、撮影者のために工夫が必要なレンジファインダー式と
異なり、画角の変化が直接見える一眼レフカメラはズームレンズとの相性が良いものであ
る。その相性を生かすためには一眼レフカメラにおいて目視用のプリズムに光を導くため
のミラーが撮影の瞬間ごとに回転し、たとえ装着レンズの焦点距離がミラーの大きさより
短くとも、レンズの結像のための光路から逃げるスペースをレンズの後ろに確保する必要
がある。従って前群が凹群のタイプが一眼レフカメラ用広角ズームにおいては採用される
ことと成る。
一般的には複数のレンズでこうした群要素を構成することが多いので負先行の構成と
呼ぶ。ただし、各群のパワーに比べてパワーの変化についてはそう大きなものは望めず、一
般的には広角よりのズーム比の比較的小さなコンパクトズームに向いている形式である。
